The roar of engines winding through the Cicolano hills, Lake Salto, and the flavors of the Rieti region
The Pescorocchiano Motorcycle Rally was founded in 2025 by the ASSAS Motorcycle Club, with the support of the Municipality of Pescorocchiano. In just one edition, it has established itself as one of the most popular motorcycle events in the Rieti summer calendar. The landscape does much of the heavy lifting: the Cicolano is a still-undiscovered part of inland Lazio, a maze of winding mountain roads, dense beech forests, perched villages, and vistas that open up unexpectedly over Lake Salto. For those on two wheels, it is ideal terrain, far from traffic and predictable tourist routes.
The event headquarters is Piazza Pantano, in the center of Pescorocchiano, a town in the Province of Rieti located just over an hour from Rome and a short distance from the Abruzzo border. This is where registrations and the ride departure take place, and in the afternoon, it hosts the most festive part of the event, open to non-motorcyclists as well.
The formula is that of a classic one-day rally, but with great attention to detail. It begins early in the morning with the gathering and registration, accompanied by a moment that immediately became a signature of the event: the blessing of the motorcycles by the parish priest of Pescorocchiano. This is followed by the departure for the tourist ride, a route through the Rieti hills designed to let riders savor the landscape at a leisurely pace.
What sets the Pescorocchiano Motorcycle Rally apart from many similar events is its dual nature. It is a full-fledged motorcycle rally, with its own ride, registrations, and awards for the largest groups and most unique bikes; but it is also, and perhaps above all, a day of collective celebration for a small mountain town. The afternoon performances and the evening party are free and open to everyone, attracting families, curious visitors, and residents who have never set foot on a saddle. The result is an unusually open atmosphere, where the roar of engines blends with the band's music and the scent of street food.
The event also has a clear territorial focus. The first edition included a guided tour of the Val de' Varri Caves, one of the most remarkable karst cavities in the area, featuring impressive stalactites, stalagmites, and underground chambers. It is a sign of an approach that does not settle for the sporting dimension alone, but attempts to use two wheels as a key to interpreting a territory that deserves more attention than it usually receives.
The rally is open to motorcyclists of all types of bikes and experience levels: the route presents no particular technical difficulties and is designed to be enjoyed in a group, at a tourist pace. Those arriving from Rome, Abruzzo, or Umbria will find Pescorocchiano a convenient base for a day trip, with the possibility of extending the weekend to explore the Cicolano, the Salto Valley, and the surrounding villages.
Following the success of its debut, the ASSAS Motorcycle Club is hosting its rally again on Sunday, August 9, 2026, with headquarters in Piazza Pantano in Pescorocchiano. The structure of the day remains the same as in 2025 — scenic ride in the morning, local lunch at noon, party in the square in the afternoon — but with some notable new features, starting with the stunt show performed by a professional.
The Cicolano Ride is a winding road itinerary through the Rieti hills, featuring forests, views of Lake Salto, and mountain villages. It requires no special technical skills and is designed to be ridden in a group at a tourist pace.
From 4:00 PM, Piazza Pantano will host the performance by MARIO STUNT, a free show open to everyone, even those not participating in the rally, followed by street food, drinks, and entertainment until evening.
Pescorocchiano can be reached by car or motorcycle via the SS 578 Salto Cicolana State Road, which connects Rieti to the A24 Rome-L'Aquila motorway (Valle del Salto / Corvaro exit). From Rome, the journey takes about an hour and a half; from Rieti, just over forty minutes. The town center and Piazza Pantano are well signposted.
During the event, motorcycle parking is concentrated in the Piazza Pantano area and adjacent streets. Those arriving by car will find parking in areas near the center.
Participation in the ride with lunch included is fee-based and requires online pre-registration. The afternoon shows and the evening party in the square are free and open to everyone.
We recommend registering in advance to secure a spot at the restaurant, as seating is limited. Bring appropriate clothing: even in August, temperatures at high altitudes can be cool early in the morning.
