About Pergola Wine Festival

Every year, on the last weekend of July, the historic center of Pergola transforms into a large open-air lounge dedicated to Pergola DOC, the red wine made from aleatico grapes, which is one of the area's excellences along with the famous truffle. Through the village streets, one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy, you'll find open cellars, guided tastings, food stands, live music, and entertainment: three days of celebration promoted by the Pro Loco to showcase the food and wine culture of this corner of the province of Pesaro and Urbino.

A festival celebrating Pergola's Red Gold

The Pergola DOC Wine Festival is one of the longest-running and most beloved food and wine events in the Marche region. For over half a century, every year at the end of July, the historic center of Pergola, in the province of Pesaro and Urbino, dresses up for a celebration of its most precious wine: Pergola DOC, an intense and fragrant red made from aleatico grapes, nicknamed the "Red Gold" of the village. Organized by the Pro Loco Pergola with the patronage of the Municipality, the festival is an event that attracts thousands of visitors and wine tourism enthusiasts every summer.

Open cellars and tastings in the heart of the village

The common thread of the event is the open cellars: cellars, taverns, and wine bars in the historic center open their doors and offer Pergola DOC paired with cured meats, cheeses, typical desserts, and traditional Marche dishes. Along Corso Matteotti and in the town squares, there are food stands, markets, guided tastings, and raised glasses, in a convivial atmosphere that involves adults and children alike. There are also round tables dedicated to wine tourism and the future of Pergola DOC, an opportunity for discussion among producers, institutions, and the territory.

More than just a wine festival

Over the years, the Wine Festival has grown, adding a rich program of collateral events to the tastings: concerts and live music in the evenings, shows and entertainment, exhibitions in churches and historic buildings, walks and excursions among the vineyards such as the Camminata del Vino (Wine Walk) and Vino & Bike (Wine & Bike) tours on the surrounding hills. The festival thus also becomes an opportunity to discover the beauties of Pergola, starting with the famous group of the Gilded Bronzes of Cartoceto, the only gilded bronze complex from the Roman era that has survived to our time, housed in the city's museum of the same name.

Pergola, village of Catria in the Marche

Nestled among the hills of Monte Catria, in the western part of the province of Pesaro and Urbino, Pergola is listed among the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy. Its historic center, made up of alleys, churches, and arcades, provides a natural backdrop for a festival that combines peasant tradition, wine culture, and Marche hospitality. For those visiting the inland Marche in the summer, the Pergola DOC Wine Festival is the best way to savor the identity of this territory, between a glass of aleatico and a walk through the village.
