Edition 2025 — Madonna Assunta Feast in Merine

On August 14th and 15th, 2025, Merine (Lizzanello) celebrated its patron saint, the Madonna Assunta in Cielo. Celebrations opened on the 14th with a Holy Mass presided over by Archbishop Angelo Raffaele Panzetta, the symbolic handing over of the town keys to the Virgin by Mayor Costantino Giovannico, and the traditional procession through the village streets, accompanied by the "Bella Madre" hymn sung by parish choirs. On August 15th, the Solemnity of the Assumption, Archbishop Emeritus Michele Seccia presided over the solemn Eucharist.

Merine celebrates the Madonna Assunta 2025

The 2025 edition of the patronal feast of Merine, a village in Lizzanello (Lecce), took place on August 14th and 15th. On August 14th, the evening Holy Mass was presided over by Archbishop Angelo Raffaele Panzetta; this was followed by the symbolic handing over of the town keys to the patron saint by Mayor Costantino Giovannico and the procession of the statue through the village streets, featuring the performance of the "Bella Madre" hymn and a message from the parish priest, Father Luca Nestola.

On August 15th, the day of the Assumption, Archbishop Emeritus Michele Seccia presided over the solemn Eucharist at the rectory. The festivities were accompanied by the Città di Castellana Grotte Brass Band, conducted by Grazia Donateo, along with light displays and a midnight fireworks show.
