About Saint Philip Neri Tursi

Tursi celebrates its patron saint, Saint Philip Neri, at the end of May, blending devotion and entertainment. A solemn Mass, procession, and the Lucania Summer Festival in Piazza Maria SS. di Anglona effectively open the summer event season in southern Basilicata.

Tursi Celebrates Saint Philip Neri

The Patronal Feast of Saint Philip Neri is one of the most cherished events in Tursi, an ancient village in the Province of Matera, famous for its picturesque Rabatana, the district of Arab origin. The feast, held at the end of May, combines religious and civic dimensions, with a solemn Mass presided over by the Bishop and a procession of the patron saint through the town's streets.

The Lucania Summer Festival

In recent years, the civic celebrations have been enhanced by the Lucania Summer Festival, which, in Piazza Maria SS. di Anglona, officially kicks off the summer event season in the Metapontino area. Featuring folk groups, themed parties, and musical performances, the evening attracts audiences from neighboring municipalities thanks to a dedicated shuttle service.

Tradition and Hospitality

The feast is an opportunity to discover Tursi, its cathedral, and the Rabatana made famous by the verses of the dialect poet Albino Pierro. With the support of the Municipality of Tursi and local entities, Saint Philip Neri becomes a moment for the community to come together and welcome visitors for the Lucanian summer.
