Patronal Feast of Saint Maurice the Martyr

The 2025 edition of the Patronal Feast of Saint Maurice the Martyr took place in Schiavi di Abruzzo, in the province of Chieti, following the traditional calendar tied to the patron's feast day on September 22. The central moments of the festivities were held at the mother church dedicated to the saint, with the first vespers, the solemn Eucharistic celebration, and the procession of the relics of the martyr, carried through the village streets by retired Alpini in memory of Saint Maurice, commander of the Theban Legion. The feast confirmed the strong bond between the mountain community of the upper Val di Sangro and its patron saint, also attracting many emigrants who returned to the village for the occasion.
