The procession and blessing of the town at the '5 roads'
Saint Gottardo Bishop is the patron saint of Calcio, a municipality in the province of Bergamo on the border with the Cremona plain. His feast day is on May 4th and represents one of the most heartfelt moments of the year for the town, also known for its famous murals.
Devotion to Saint Gottardo dates back to the 17th-18th centuries: documents from the period attest to the ancient custom of celebrating May 4th with a solemn mass in the church of San Fermo, near the cemetery, where the wooden statue of the saint was kept. Only at the beginning of the 20th century did the cult experience significant development, to the point that Saint Gottardo joined Saint Vittore the Martyr, the parish titular, in popular devotion.
The heart of the feast is the religious celebration: after the solemn concelebration, the procession winds through the town's streets with the statues of Saint Gottardo and Saint Vittore, along a route that includes Via Papa Giovanni XXIII, Via Covo, Via Oldofredi, and other streets in the center. The climax is the stop at the crossroads of the "5 roads", where the blessing of the town with the relic of Saint Gottardo is imparted. The procession then returns to the church for the supplication to the patron saint and the final blessing.
The 2026 edition of the Feast of Saint Gottardo takes place on May 4th, following Calcio's centuries-old tradition. After the preparation triduum and the solemn concelebration, the procession carries the statues of Saint Gottardo and Saint Vittore through the town streets, with a stop at the '5 roads' crossroads for the blessing of the town with the relic. The detailed schedule will be published by the parish closer to the feast.
Precise times will be published by the parish of San Vittore Martire.
