The 2025 Saint George Feast in Melpignano

The 2025 edition of the Patronal Feast of Saint George the Martyr took place on April 23rd, in accordance with the liturgical feast day of the Saint. In Melpignano, in the heart of Grecìa Salentina in the province of Lecce, the day was marked by religious rites in the Mother Church of Saint George and the solemn procession of the patron's statue through the village streets.

As per tradition, the devotional dimension was combined with civil celebrations: the brass band concert, the handcrafted illuminations, and the festive atmosphere engaged both residents and visitors, confirming the strong bond between the Melpignano community and its protector. The celebration represented one of the most heartfelt spring events in the village, ahead of the major summer festivals dedicated to the co-patron Saint Mary Magdalene and the folk music of La Notte della Taranta.
