The Patronal Feast of Saint George is the most cherished event of the year in Mirabello Sannitico (province of Campobasso, Molise). It is celebrated on April 23rd, the day dedicated to the warrior saint, and involves the entire community in an occasion that blends faith, identity, and popular tradition.

The Processions

Saint George and the 'Laure'

Devotion to Saint George in Mirabello has its roots in an ancient legend: the population, to defend themselves from enemy incursions, allegedly lit bonfires to simulate an ongoing fire, subsequently receiving the help of a knight on a white horse. This is the origin of the tradition of the 'laure', the ritual fires lit on the evenings of April 16th and 22nd, which prelude the patron saint's feast and constitute its most spectacular and identity-defining soul.
