The village celebrates its patron saint with mass, bean dinner, and community gatherings.
The very name of the village says it all: Saint-Denis, a Municipality in the middle Aosta Valley, in the Province of Aosta, owes its identity to Saint Denis (San Dionigi), the patron saint remembered on October 9th. The Patronal Feast is the time of year when the community gathers around its saint and its traditions.
The event, organized by the Pro-loco Château de Cly together with the municipal administration, spans several days. Alongside the religious observance – the Sunday mass and procession – there are convivial and popular events: film screenings, a dance evening, the traditional bean dinner (fagioli grassi), the belote tournament (a card game dear to Franco-Provençal and Aosta Valley culture), and a community lunch by reservation.
Among the most cherished rites is the civic maturity ceremony, which officially welcomes young people reaching the age of majority into the community: an act that binds generations and renews the sense of belonging. The Patronal Feast of Saint Denis is thus much more than a local festival; it is a living portrait of an Aosta Valley village celebrating its roots.
The 2026 edition of the Patronal Feast does not yet have an official program at the time of writing this sheet. However, the recurrence is deeply rooted: it is celebrated every year around October 9th, the day of Saint Denis, patron saint of Saint-Denis, organized by the Pro-loco Château de Cly with the municipal administration.
Based on previous editions, one can expect a multi-day program, likely around October 9-11, with mass, procession, bean dinner, belote tournament, dance evening, and civic maturity ceremony. Dates and details will be communicated by the Pro-loco and the Municipality in the weeks prior.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition has not yet been published at the time of writing. It will be communicated by the Pro-loco Château de Cly and the Municipality of Saint-Denis.
