The feast of the patron saint of the Pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea
If there is one event that encapsulates the soul of Maratea, the renowned "Pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea" overlooking the Lucanian coast, it is the Patronal Feast of Saint Blaise. For four days in May, the village, nestled between the sea and the slopes of Monte San Biagio crowned by the statue of Christ the Redeemer, pauses its usual rhythm to dedicate itself to the saint who has been its spiritual guide and identity symbol for centuries.
The heart of the feast remains profoundly religious: the solemn procession accompanies the saint's effigy through the streets of the historic center, under luminous arches, with decorations and the heartfelt participation of the entire community. It is a rite that intertwines popular devotion and collective memory, in which generations of Marateans find their identity.
Alongside the spiritual dimension, the feast has always offered a rich program of shows and music. The historic Piazza Buraglia, the living room of the historic center, transforms into an open-air stage for concerts by major Italian music artists, with free admission events that attract a large and diverse audience.
Experiencing the Feast of Saint Blaise also means discovering one of the most fascinating villages in the Province of Potenza: the cobbled alleys, the 44 churches that earned Maratea the nickname "city of 44 churches," the restaurants offering the flavors of the Lucanian Tyrrhenian tradition. The feast thus becomes the perfect opportunity to immerse oneself in the authenticity of this corner of Basilicata, where spirituality blends with the beauty of the landscape and the warmth of hospitality.
The Patronal Feast of Saint Blaise 2026 takes place in the days around May 10th, with the usual alternation of religious moments and entertainment events. The climax of the civil celebrations is set for Sunday, May 10th at 9:30 PM in Piazza Buraglia, where the free concert by Fausto Leali will take place.
A symbolic voice of Italian song, a protagonist on the music scene from the sixties to today, Leali brings his powerful and emotional interpretations to Maratea, in a show capable of uniting the nostalgia of his greatest hits with the energy of a live performance.
The celebrations are concentrated in the days around May 7-10, 2026, with religious rites, a procession, and shows.
The religious program includes the solemn procession of the effigy of Saint Blaise through the historic center. The complete schedule of celebrations is published by the parish and the Municipality of Maratea in the weeks preceding the feast.
