Marcignago celebrates its patron saint with masses, processions, and blessings
The Patronal Feast of Saint Agatha is the most cherished event in Marcignago, a municipality in the province of Pavia located in the plain west of the provincial capital. Saint Agatha, Virgin and Martyr, is the patron saint of the town, and her feast, held in early February, has always marked the community's calendar.
The celebrations are centered at the Parish of Saint Agatha Virgin and Martyr, on Via Umberto I. The heart of the feast is the procession with the statue of the Saint through the town's streets, accompanied by Holy Masses and the solemn mass. The services are animated by the town's band and choir, which give the feast a solemn and participatory character.
A characteristic moment is linked to the area's agricultural vocation: the feast includes the blessing of seeds and the blessing of vehicles and agricultural machinery in front of the church. It is a rite that intertwines devotion to Saint Agatha with the life of the fields in the Pavia plain, uniting the town around its agricultural roots.
Organized by the parish in collaboration with the Pro Loco Marcignago, the patronal feast is a moment of strong cohesion for the municipality. Between processions, masses, and blessings, Saint Agatha remains the identity reference for Marcignago and the area west of Pavia.
The Patronal Feast of Saint Agatha 2026 will take place in Marcignago on Thursday, February 5th, and Friday, February 6th, according to the program released by the Municipality.
