About Patron Saint's Fair

Every first Sunday of June, the center of San Severino Marche, in the province of Macerata, transforms into a huge open-air fair to celebrate the patron saint, Bishop Severinus. About a hundred itinerant vendors fill Viale Matteotti, Via Dante Alighieri, Via San Sebastiano, Piazzale Don Minzoni, and the station area: stalls of all kinds, typical products, crafts, and manufacturing tradition, from 8 am to 11 pm. It has always been a great event for shopping, taste, and socializing for the entire Vallesina and the Marche hinterland.

The fair that opens the San Severino summer

The Patron Saint's Fair of San Severino is one of the most cherished events in the calendar of San Severino Marche, a town in the hinterland of the province of Macerata, in the Marche region. By tradition, it is held on the first Sunday of June, coinciding with the celebrations for the patron saint Bishop Severinus, and ideally marks the start of the town's summer season.

One hundred vendors in the streets of the center

For an entire day, from 8 am to 11 pm, the heart of the city fills with stalls, exhibition stands, and visitors. The fair takes place along the main streets and squares of the center: Viale Matteotti, Via Dante Alighieri, Via San Sebastiano, Piazzale Don Minzoni, and the entire area of the train station parking lot. Around one hundred itinerant vendors are expected, with a very diverse range of goods.

  • Non-food sector: clothing, housewares, accessories, and curiosities.
  • Food, sweets, and local specialties, with regional cheeses and cured meats.
  • Areas reserved for artisans and craftspeople, dedicated to manual skills and manufacturing tradition.
  • Spaces for agricultural producers, for zero-kilometer shopping.
  • Stalls for the exhibition and sale of works of art and creative creations.
  • Presence of local volunteer associations.

Bishop Severinus, the Patron Saint

The fair originated from the devotion to Bishop Severinus, the city's protector, whose feast day is June 8th. The figure of the saint, according to tradition from a noble family but devoted to a life of poverty and prayer, is deeply rooted in the identity of San Severino. On the days dedicated to the patron saint, the community comes together for religious celebrations, solemn masses, and popular festivities, of which the fair represents the secular and most frequented aspect.

A Community Event

The Patron Saint's Fair has always been a major draw for shopping and socializing: families, curious visitors, and lovers of good products come from all over the Vallesina and neighboring towns to stroll among the stalls, meet people, and soak up the festive atmosphere. The event is part of the broader summer program of the city and interacts with other events of the period, starting with the historical re-enactment of the Palio dei Castelli, which enlivens San Severino Marche in the same weeks of June.
