The grand fair celebrating Bishop Saint Severinus, on the first Sunday of June
The Patron Saint's Fair of San Severino is one of the most cherished events in the calendar of San Severino Marche, a town in the hinterland of the province of Macerata, in the Marche region. By tradition, it is held on the first Sunday of June, coinciding with the celebrations for the patron saint Bishop Severinus, and ideally marks the start of the town's summer season.
For an entire day, from 8 am to 11 pm, the heart of the city fills with stalls, exhibition stands, and visitors. The fair takes place along the main streets and squares of the center: Viale Matteotti, Via Dante Alighieri, Via San Sebastiano, Piazzale Don Minzoni, and the entire area of the train station parking lot. Around one hundred itinerant vendors are expected, with a very diverse range of goods.
The fair originated from the devotion to Bishop Severinus, the city's protector, whose feast day is June 8th. The figure of the saint, according to tradition from a noble family but devoted to a life of poverty and prayer, is deeply rooted in the identity of San Severino. On the days dedicated to the patron saint, the community comes together for religious celebrations, solemn masses, and popular festivities, of which the fair represents the secular and most frequented aspect.
The Patron Saint's Fair has always been a major draw for shopping and socializing: families, curious visitors, and lovers of good products come from all over the Vallesina and neighboring towns to stroll among the stalls, meet people, and soak up the festive atmosphere. The event is part of the broader summer program of the city and interacts with other events of the period, starting with the historical re-enactment of the Palio dei Castelli, which enlivens San Severino Marche in the same weeks of June.
The Patron Saint's Fair of San Severino 2026 will be held on Sunday, June 7th, the first Sunday of the month, on the occasion of the celebrations for Bishop Severinus. The event will be open from 8:00 am to 11:00 pm and will occupy Viale Matteotti, Via Dante Alighieri, Via San Sebastiano, Piazzale Don Minzoni, and the station square.
Around one hundred itinerant vendors are expected, with goods from the non-food sector, food and confectionery products, typical cheeses and cured meats, as well as areas dedicated to artisans and craftspeople, zero-kilometer agricultural producers, works of art, and volunteer associations. The same day will also be marked by religious celebrations for the patron saint.
The day coincides with the celebrations for the patron saint Bishop Severinus and with the city's religious celebrations.
