The sacred representation of the Passion of Christ on Palm Sunday
In Jerago con Orago, in the Province of Varese, the Passion of Christ is a sacred representation with a long tradition, born in 1986 and grown to become one of the most important religious and theatrical events in the area. The community mobilizes every year to bring to life an impressive staging, involving actors, extras, and volunteers of all ages.
The strength of the Passione di Jerago lies in its choral dimension: over a hundred participants recreate the most significant moments of the Passion of Christ, from the entry into Jerusalem to the crucifixion. A core group of historical reenactors joins local volunteers, in a performance that blends faith with popular theatrical tradition.
The natural stage is the monumental park of the Casa Don Guanella Spiritual Center, in Barza di Ispra, a suggestive location that amplifies the emotion of the performance. The event takes place on Palm Sunday, in the afternoon, ideally opening Holy Week for the local community.
The Passione di Jerago con Orago is much more than a show: it is an identity moment for the town, which was the birthplace of figures like the Archbishop of Milan, Mario Delpini. The representation, free and open to all, attracts numerous spectators from all over the Lombardy Region every year, confirming itself as one of the most attended Passion plays in Northern Italy.
