'Life in Motion': Verona Arena Lights Up the Paralympic Games
The Opening Ceremony of the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Paralympic Games takes place at the Arena di Verona, the famous Roman amphitheatre in Piazza Bra. Titled 'Life in Motion', the ceremony represents a historic moment: it is the first Paralympic ceremony to be hosted at a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Under the artistic direction of Alfredo Accatino, the show interprets movement as change and transformation of perception, with a strong message of peace, love, the right to inclusion, and universal values. The athletes' entrance and the lighting of the Paralympic cauldron mark an evening that unites sport, art, and civil commitment.
With this event, after hosting the Olympic closing ceremony, the city of Verona (province of Verona, Veneto Region) confirms its leading role in the Milan Cortina 2026 Games, bringing the Arena to the centre of global attention and the values of Paralympic sport.
