About Panevin

On the evening of January 5th, in the hamlets of Mogliano Veneto, the Panevin are lit, the great bonfires of Venetian tradition that greet the arrival of Befana. In Zerman, at the Multipurpose Centre in via Bonisiolo, the bonfire is accompanied by a fireworks display, tombola, Christmas sweets, and Befana stockings; in Campocroce, the Alpini group entertains families and children with pinza, mulled wine, and treats. An ancient ritual of fire, good omens, and community.

The Panevin, the bonfire of Venetian Epiphany

The Panevin (or pan e vin) is the great Epiphany bonfire typical of the Veneto region: on the evening of January 5th, throughout the Marca Trevigiana, piles of wood topped with the vecia (old woman) are lit, while omens for the new year are drawn from the direction of the sparks. It is one of the most deeply rooted traditions in the area, and in Mogliano Veneto, in the province of Treviso, it is renewed in several hamlets.

Zerman: bonfire, fireworks, and Befana

In Zerman, at the Multipurpose Centre in via Bonisiolo, the Panevin is lit in the evening and is accompanied by a fireworks display, tombola, Christmas sweets, and Befana stockings for the little ones. There is also mulled wine and pinza, the traditional poor man's cake enjoyed around the fire.

Campocroce and the hamlets

In Campocroce, at the same time, the Alpini group entertains families and children while waiting for Befana with pinza, mulled wine, and other treats. The Epiphany celebrations continue on January 6th with events spread across Mazzocco and Campocroce, including shows, distribution of stockings, and Befana for the children. It is a choral moment that closes the Christmas festivities in the name of tradition and conviviality.
