The Chariot Race in Asolo
The Palio di Asolo is the most heartfelt popular festival in Asolo, a medieval village in the province of Treviso and one of the most beautiful in Italy. The protagonists are the districts of the village, which compete by dragging heavy chariots by hand up the steep slopes of the historic center: a very tough and spectacular race that ends in Piazza Brugnoli, the heart of the event.
Districts and Hundred Horizons
The Palio di Asolo, reserved for the six districts of the city — Asolo, Ca' Giupponi, Casella, Pagnano, Villa d'Asolo, and Villa Raspa — is joined by the Palio dei Cento Orizzonti, which extends the challenge to the municipalities of the Terre Asolane: Altivole, Caerano di San Marco, Fonte, Montebelluna, Pederobba, Pieve del Grappa, San Zenone degli Ezzelini, and Asolo itself. In total, dozens of male and female teams and hundreds of young people train for months along the slopes of Asolo.
A Community Tradition
More than just a race, the Palio is a community ritual that spans generations: today's young people take on the roles their parents held, keeping alive a tradition that makes Asolo an example of territorial identity in the Marca Trevigiana. Between trials, parades, and convivial moments, the race lasts a few minutes but is worth a year of glory for the winning district.
Palio of Asolo — edition 2026
The 2026 edition marks the 30th edition of the Palio di Asolo and the 12th of the Palio dei Cento Orizzonti, from June 23 to 25 in Piazza Brugnoli. Between the Palio di Asolo, reserved for the districts of Asolo, Ca' Giupponi, Casella, Pagnano, Villa d'Asolo, and Villa Raspa, and the Palio dei Cento Orizzonti, which involves the municipalities of Altivole, Caerano di San Marco, Fonte (defending champion), Montebelluna, Pederobba, Pieve del Grappa, San Zenone degli Ezzelini, and Asolo, dozens of teams and over 250 young people compete, having trained for months along the village's slopes.

Program distributed by the organizers for the 2026 edition:
Friday, June 23
- 8:00 PM — opening ceremony and presentation of the teams in Piazza Brugnoli, with drawing of the starting order
Saturday, June 24
- 7:30 PM — first day of competition with the women's teams of the Palio di Asolo and the Palio dei Cento Orizzonti
- Following — food trucks and music
Sunday, June 25
- 5:30 PM — men's race: first the Palio dei Cento Orizzonti, then the Palio di Asolo
- Following — awards ceremony and celebrations in Piazza Brugnoli

How to get there
Asolo is located in the province of Treviso; by car from the Castelfranco Veneto or Bassano del Grappa motorway exit, the nearest train station is Montebelluna. The races take place along the slopes of the historic center, with the finish line in Piazza Brugnoli.

In June, over three days. Free admission; food trucks and refreshment points available for a fee.
