Edition 2025 — Palio della Mezzaluna

The 2025 edition of the Palio della Mezzaluna took place in Massafra in September, culminating on the weekend of September 20-21. On Saturday the 20th, the "Cities of the Palio" conference and the "Silver Palio" award ceremony were held in the courtyard of the Medieval Castle; on Sunday the 21st, the grand historical pageant with over 200 costumed figures and knights took place, followed by the relay race between the six districts. The Santa Caterina district won for the first time in its history, ahead of Pappacoda and Santi Medici.

Palio della Mezzaluna 2025

The 2025 edition of the Palio della Mezzaluna brought Massafra to life throughout the month of September, with the highlight on the weekend of September 20 and 21. On Saturday, September 20, at 6:00 PM, the Medieval Castle hosted the cultural conference "The Cities of the Palio", the presentation of the "Silver Palio" award, and the unveiling of the banner, created by artist Alessandro Ciarella.

Sunday, September 21, featured the most spectacular moment: the historical pageant with over 200 costumed figures and knights through the historic center, followed by the highly anticipated relay race between the six districts starting from Piazza Garibaldi. The Santa Caterina district won the Palio for the first time in its history, finishing ahead of Pappacoda and Santi Medici. Mayor Giancarla Zaccaro kicked off the race, which concluded with fireworks and the winners' celebration.

Saturday, September 20, 2025

  • 6:00 PM — Conference "The Cities of the Palio" in the courtyard of the Medieval Castle
  • Presentation of the "Silver Palio" award and unveiling of the 2025 banner (work by Alessandro Ciarella)

Sunday, September 21, 2025

  • From the afternoon — Historical pageant with over 200 costumed figures and knights through the historic center
  • In the evening — Relay race between the six districts (Gesù Bambino, Pappacoda, Santi Medici, San Marco, Imperiali, Santa Caterina) starting from Piazza Garibaldi
  • Awarding of the winning district: Santa Caterina (1st), Pappacoda (2nd), Santi Medici (3rd)
