Three days dedicated to Argentine culture and Marche emigration, featuring tango, comics, and memory
In the birthplace of Giacomo Leopardi, in the heart of the Province of Macerata and the Marche region, Palabras de Tango celebrates the deep bond that unites Italy and Argentina. The festival was created to recount the approximately 130 years of Marche emigration to South America and to give voice, through music and art, to the thousands of families who sought fortune overseas from the Marche region. It is no coincidence that the event takes place concurrently with the Semana de Mayo, the week that celebrates national independence in Argentina.
The program intertwines different languages but linked by a single cultural root. Tango, the musical and poetic soul of Argentina, is the common thread: words and music that tell of nostalgia, travel, and identity. Alongside the music, there is space for Argentine author comics, featuring the great masters of the Buenos Aires school, and literature, with meetings and presentations ranging from popular culture to sports mythology.
The event is spread throughout the historic center of Recanati and involves some of its most significant spaces:
Organized by the Municipality of Recanati together with the Museum of Marche Emigration, Palabras de Tango combines historical dissemination, live performance, and public participation. Guided tours of the Museum, also designed for schools, tell the stories of those who left the Marche region for Argentina, while in the evening the milonga transforms the museum spaces into a dance floor open to enthusiasts. An event that has enjoyed great public success since its first edition in Recanati, confirming the charm of tango and the power of migratory narratives.
The 2026 edition, the first hosted in Recanati, brought three days of events to the city spread throughout the historic center, coinciding with Argentina's Semana de Mayo. Among exhibitions, literary meetings, guided tours, and live performances, the event intertwined Argentine culture with the memory of Marche emigration, enjoying broad public success.
Throughout all days, free guided tours of the Museum of Marche Emigration dedicated to the stories of those who emigrated from the Marche to Argentina.
The events take place in the historic center of Recanati (MC): Teatro Persiani, Torre del Borgo, Museo dell'Emigrazione Marchigiana, and Palazzo Comunale, all within walking distance in the heart of the city.
