Venice's artisan workshops open their doors for Made in Italy Day
Open Ateliers is the initiative that, on the occasion of the National Made in Italy Day — established on the birthday of Leonardo da Vinci, April 15th — opens Venice's workshops and creative studios to the public for free. For four days, ateliers, workshops, and artisan spaces usually reserved for work become accessible to the curious, enthusiasts, and families.
The initiative, promoted by Venezia da Vivere with the patronage of the Municipality of Venice, showcases a world-unique heritage of artistic crafts: Murano glass, weaving, paper, ceramics, art printing, luthiery, goldsmithing, graphic design, basketry, typography, and carpentry. Meeting master artisans in their spaces means discovering gestures, tools, and knowledge passed down through generations.
The program includes workshops, talks, guided tours, live demonstrations, and labs, many of which are also designed for children, as well as fashion shows and musical moments. Admission is always free, in some cases by reservation, to allow everyone to enter the creative processes and see up close how artisan work is born.
Spread across sestieri (districts) and islands, Venice (VE) confirms its vocation as a city of excellent craftsmanship with Open Ateliers, in the Veneto region, enhancing a Made in Italy that is simultaneously tradition, identity, and innovation.
The 2026 edition of Open Ateliers took place in Venice from April 15 to 18, on the occasion of the National Made in Italy Day, on the theme "In the Mode": an invitation to enter the creative processes and see up close how artisan work takes shape.
Over 50 ateliers, workshops, and creative studios opened their doors for free with more than 100 events: workshops, talks, guided tours, live demonstrations, fashion shows, and music, many also designed for children. Featured were Murano glass, weaving, paper, ceramics, art printing, luthiery, and goldsmithing.
Free admission, some require booking. Full schedule at veneziadavivere.com.
Venice is reachable by train to Santa Lucia station, by car to Piazzale Roma or Tronchetto, or by plane from Marco Polo Airport. The ateliers are spread across the sestieri and islands and can be reached on foot or by ACTV water bus.
