Photography that tells the story of reading

Pordenone dedicates a major exhibition season to photography with 'On Reading', a project that centres on the theme of reading understood as a lens for interpreting reality. Distributed across several venues in the historic centre, the exhibition interweaves the masterpieces of a 20th-century master with the perspectives of contemporary photography, in a journey that invites reflection on the act of reading and observing.

The heart of the season is the major solo exhibition by Robert Doisneau at the Galleria d'Arte Moderna Harry Bertoia, with over a hundred images by the French master. Alongside him, the voices of contemporary photography: Olivia Arthur of the Magnum agency at the Museo Civico d'Arte di Palazzo Ricchieri, Stefanie Moshammer at the Mercati Culturali, and the work of Seiichi Furuya, in a dialogue between generations and languages.

Towards the Italian Capital of Culture 2027

The photographic season is part of the journey that leads Pordenone to the title of Italian Capital of Culture 2027, confirming the city's vocation to invest in visual culture and in the great names of international photography. Produced and organised by Suazes with the support of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, the exhibition has attracted thousands of visitors.

Multiple venues, a single narrative

The widespread format, spread across the Galleria Bertoia, Palazzo Ricchieri, and the Mercati Culturali, transforms a walk in the centre into an itinerary through images. Guided tours, workshops, meetings, and performances enrich the programme, creating a dialogue between photography, literature, and creative practice.
