About Notes of Summer

Notes of Summer is the historic classical music review that every spring-summer transforms the evocative Rocca Brivio in San Giuliano Milanese into a refined stage. Under the artistic direction of Maestro Vincenzo Balzani, a series of free evening concerts features piano, strings, voice, and bel canto in a continuous dialogue between repertoires and generations of performers. Now in its XXXII edition, the review combines concerts with a masterclass open to the public, confirming itself as one of the most beloved cultural events in South Milan.

Classical Music at Rocca Brivio

Notes of Summer is the concert review that for over thirty years has accompanied spring and early summer in San Giuliano Milanese, in the Metropolitan City of Milan. The setting for the events is the Rocca Brivio, a historic residence surrounded by the greenery of the South Milan Agricultural Park, which offers an exceptional context for listening to great music.

The Artistic Direction of Maestro Balzani

The review is curated by Maestro Vincenzo Balzani, a renowned pianist and educator, who each year proposes a thematic thread. The most recent edition revolves around the theme Amormusica, "where music evokes dance and the art of bel canto," intertwining piano, string quartet, voice, and instrumental duo throughout the various evenings.

Concerts and Masterclasses

The program alternates between established performers and young talents from the Pianofriends Association, ranging from Spanish repertoire to Bach and Gershwin, up to pieces dedicated to Republic Day. Alongside the concerts, an afternoon Open Masterclass opens the musicians' training work to the public, making the review also an educational opportunity.

An Event for the Territory

Organized by the Roccabrivio ETS Association in collaboration with the Municipality of San Giuliano Milanese, Notes of Summer offers free admission and is aimed at a wide audience, from classical music enthusiasts to local families. The review simultaneously enhances the musical and architectural heritage of Rocca Brivio.

Notes of Summer โ€” edition 2026

The XXXII edition of Notes of Summer offers five evenings at Rocca Brivio on the theme Amormusica, with the artistic direction of Maestro Vincenzo Balzani. The program includes Spanish repertoire, bel canto, string quartet, the Great Bach-Gershwin Duo, and an Open Masterclass open to the public.

The 2026 edition of Notes of Summer takes place at the Rocca Brivio in San Giuliano Milanese from May 19 to June 16, with evening concerts at 9:00 PM. The theme chosen by Maestro Vincenzo Balzani is Amormusica, presented in five evenings ranging from Spanish repertoire to bel canto, from strings to the Great Duo from Bach to Gershwin.
