The Nordic Film Fest is Italy's leading showcase dedicated to the cinematography of the five Nordic nations: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. Established to introduce Roman audiences to the most recent and acclaimed productions from Northern Europe, the festival takes place every November in Rome, Lazio, and stands as one of the most anticipated events for fans of Scandinavian auteur cinema. The fourteenth edition was held from November 27 to 30, 2025, at the Cinema Caravaggio and Cinema Azzurro Scipioni in the Prati district.

A program of masters and new voices

The heart of the festival is a curated selection of films chosen in collaboration with the film institutes and embassies of the five countries. Each edition features fiction features, documentaries, shorts, and video art, all presented in their original language with Italian subtitles—often as national premieres. The program alternates between major names in Nordic cinema, such as Danish director Anders Thomas Jensen and actor Mads Mikkelsen, and emerging young filmmakers exploring contemporary Scandinavian society.

Beyond film: the 'Novembre Nordico'

The Nordic Film Fest is an integral part of Novembre Nordico, the cultural season that enlivens Rome throughout the month with events dedicated to Northern Europe. Surrounding the screenings are photo exhibitions, book launches, meetings with directors, and tastings of traditional Nordic products, transforming the festival into a well-rounded cultural experience that connects the Roman public with an imagery defined by landscapes, light, and the narratives of the Great North.

Organization and patronage

The festival is directed by Antonio Flamini for ITALE20 and is promoted by the five Nordic embassies in Italy together with the Scandinavian Circle of Rome, under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and the Lazio Region. Admission to screenings is traditionally free of charge, subject to availability, reflecting the event's educational and inclusive mission.
