The evening parade of allegorical floats in the hamlet of Padulle
The Night Carnival of Sala Bolognese is one of the most characteristic events in the Municipality of Sala Bolognese, in the Metropolitan City of Bologna, in the heart of Emilia-Romagna. Its peculiarity lies entirely in its timing: unlike traditional daytime carnivals, here the parade of allegorical floats takes place at night, animating the streets of the hamlet of Padulle when darkness has fallen. This is precisely its charm: the floats, illuminated and carefully decorated by local groups, shine in the darkness of the spring evening and offer a different spectacle than usual.
The highlight of the event is the parade of allegorical floats, accompanied by a large shower of confetti, balloons, and plush toys thrown towards the crowd that fills the sides of the route. Children and adults participate in costume, in a festive and engaging atmosphere that involves the entire community of Padulle and the surrounding towns of the Bolognese plain. The parade generally starts around 8:00 PM, after the sunset has transformed the village into a catwalk of lights and colors.
Like any self-respecting festival in Emilia-Romagna, the Night Carnival also focuses on good food. The food stands managed by the Pro Loco Sala Bolognese open in the early afternoon/evening and offer typical local specialties: crescentine (the famous Bolognese fried dumplings), stuffed piadine, desserts, and good local wine. An opportunity to taste the authentic flavors of Emilian cuisine in a festive setting.
Organized by the Pro Loco Sala Bolognese, the event represents one of the appointments that mark the social life of the hamlet of Padulle, along with the Fiera di Sala Bolognese and other village festivals. The Night Carnival is an example of how small communities in the Bolognese plain manage to keep popular folklore traditions alive, reinterpreting them with originality โ in this case, by moving the parade from day to night.
The date may be postponed to the following day in case of bad weather: it is advisable to check for updates on the Pro Loco's channels before traveling.
