Extraordinary opening of De Capua Castle for the XXVII edition, May 16-17
The National Castles Days, promoted by the Italian Institute of Castles with the patronage of the Ministry of Culture, is the event that annually opens fortresses, manors, and fortified architecture to the public throughout Italy. The XXVII edition, scheduled for May 16 and 17, 2026, involves 24 sites in 19 regions.
In Molise, alongside the regional protagonist Pignatelli Castle of Monteroduni, the event includes extraordinary openings of the De Capua Castle of Riccia (CB) and the Angevin Tower of Colletorto. The manor of Riccia, linked to the powerful De Capua feudal family that ruled the village for five centuries, will be visitable with guided tours: a precious opportunity to discover the Aragonese keep and the history that links the castle to the story of Costanza di Chiaramonte, the only queen buried in Molise.
The initiative is part of the mission of the Italian Institute of Castles, which has been committed for decades to the protection and enhancement of Italian fortified heritage, and represents one of the few moments of the year when the public can access these normally closed places.
For the XXVII edition of the National Castles Days, on May 16 and 17, 2026, the De Capua Castle of Riccia (CB) had an extraordinary opening with guided tours, as part of the initiative promoted by the Italian Institute of Castles with the patronage of the Ministry of Culture.
