Edition 2025 — Muzzuni
In 2025, the Muzzuni Festival in Alcara li Fusi (Messina) was held from June 21st to 24th, confirming its status as one of the oldest and most evocative folk festivals in Italy. On the night of June 24th, dedicated to St. John the Baptist, the village neighborhoods hosted the altarini with the muzzuni and itinerant performances by folk music groups from 9:30 PM.
The edition featured the participation of numerous folk groups, including the Gruppo Folk Turiana from Alcara li Fusi, twin ensembles from Rosario Santa Fè (Argentina) and Bochnia (Poland), along with Sicilian groups such as Il Meliuso from Gioiosa Marea, Amastra from Mistretta, and La Scocca Valdemone from Militello Rosmarino. The polyphonic songs of the chianote and ruggere—tunes of peasant life and love—echoed through the streets, while the rite of the comparatico was renewed in front of the muzzuni.
