Three days in the heart of Soave Classico, with glasses, vineyards, and tradition
Monteforte d'Alpone, in the province of Verona, is one of the two historic municipalities (along with Soave) that give rise to the Soave Classico designation. It's no surprise that for over half a century, one of the most cherished wine festivals in the Verona area has been held here: the Monteforte d'Alpone Wine Festival, which will reach its 51st edition in 2026.
For an entire weekend in May, the historic center transforms into a large, widespread stage: tastings curated by ONAV (National Organization of Wine Tasters), art exhibitions, theatrical performances, aerial discipline shows, and historical re-enactments in 19th-century costumes animate squares and courtyards. Visitors can discover the local labels โ Soave DOC, Soave Superiore Classico DOCG, and Recioto di Soave Classico DOCG โ paired with traditional Venetian dishes offered by the Pro Loco stands.
The most anticipated moment is on Sunday, with the famous Percorso dei 10 Capitelli (Path of the 10 Chapels): a guided walk through the hilly vineyards of Garganega, the queen grape of Soave, which starts early in the morning with a hearty Venetian breakfast. Also not to be missed are visits to the town's historic cellars โ names that have made Soave's history like Gini, Nardello, and Tenuta Solar โ open by reservation for a journey into the heart of Val d'Alpone's wine production.
Organized by the Pro Loco of Monteforte d'Alpone, the Wine Festival is much more than an oenological fair: it's the way this community in Veneto tells its own identity, made of terraced hills, quality viticulture, and a deep connection to the land. An ideal event for those who want to get to know the excellence of Soave Classico up close, away from mass tourist circuits.
The 2026 edition confirms the tried-and-tested formula that blends wine, art, and tradition in the Soave Classico village, with the inauguration at the Palazzo Vescovile, tastings curated by ONAV, and the grand Sunday event among the heroic vineyards.
Wines featured: Soave Classico DOC, Soave Superiore Classico DOCG, and Recioto di Soave Classico DOCG.
Monteforte d'Alpone is located about 25 km east of Verona. By car: A4 motorway, Soave-San Bonifacio exit, then a few minutes towards the hills. By train: San Bonifacio station on the Milan-Venice line, then bus or taxi.
ONAV tastings and visits to historic cellars are by reservation. The Sunday Percorso dei 10 Capitelli includes a Venetian breakfast. For information and reservations, contact the Pro Loco.
Third weekend of May. Free entry to the festival areas; tastings and guided experiences are paid.
