Three days of nature, flavours, and tradition on the banks of the Ete river in Mogliano
Every year, around the first of May, the village of Mogliano, in the province of Macerata and in the heart of the Marche region, hosts a trio of events that showcase its rural and community spirit. The Magnalonga is a gastronomic walk of about eight kilometres that winds through the ancient country roads, dirt paths, and scenic spots of the Santa Croce River Park, along the banks of the Ete river. Walking here means traversing the history, nature, and roots of the territory.
The meeting point is set for 9:00 AM in Piazzale San Michele. From there, participants set off on an itinerary punctuated by three tasting stops, during which they savour the typical products of Marche's peasant cuisine. Along the way, there are moments of entertainment, such as the shows by the Great Magician Simone, particularly appreciated by families with children. Arrival is expected around 1:00 PM at the Santa Croce River Park, where the morning concludes with a convivial outdoor lunch.
The second day is dedicated to Semi in Festa on the Banks of the Ete: an event for nature and garden lovers, featuring the exchange of seeds, plants, cuttings, and experiences. From 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, workshops for adults and children, guided tours of the small churches and chapels in the area, and meetings with authors and botany experts take place. From 12:00 PM, the food stand opens with traditional local dishes.
The third day is reserved for the Feast of Santa Croce, a moment of strong identity for the community of Mogliano, linked to popular devotion and the sense of belonging to the place. The event, as a whole, is organised by the Association 'Amici di Santa Croce' with the collaboration of the Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament and the patronage of the Municipality of Mogliano.
The Magnalonga is designed for a wide audience: families, hikers, food and wine enthusiasts, and the curious who want to discover an authentic corner of the Marche region. The pace is slow and relaxed, allowing participants to appreciate the hilly landscape, the small religious buildings scattered in the countryside, and the hospitality of the Mogliano community.
The 16th Magnalonga of Mogliano opened the celebrations on Friday, May 1st, 2026, with the meeting at 9:00 AM in Piazzale San Michele and the start of the approximately 8 km route, marked by three tasting stops and entertainment by the Great Magician Simone, with arrival and lunch at the Santa Croce River Park around 1:00 PM.
Saturday, May 2nd, was dedicated to 'Semi in Festa' on the Banks of the Ete, with an exchange of seeds and plants, workshops for adults and children, and a food stand. Sunday, May 3rd, concluded with the Traditional Feast of Santa Croce.
Mogliano can be reached by car via the SS77 Val di Chienti, Corridonia/Mogliano exit, and is about 30 km from Macerata. The nearest train station is Macerata, from which you can continue by regional bus lines or car.
The Magnalonga on the first of May has a participation fee of approximately 20 euros for adults and 10 euros for children aged 6 to 10, which includes tasting stops and the final lunch. The 'Semi in Festa' and Feast of Santa Croce days have free admission.
Comfortable shoes for the walk and clothing suitable for spring weather are recommended. It is advisable to book your participation in the Magnalonga by contacting the 'Amici di Santa Croce' Association through their social media channels.
