Edition 2025 — Madonna del Carmine
2025 Edition
In 2025, the Madonna del Carmine Festival was celebrated in Porto Empedocle around July 16th, as part of the Empedoclean summer calendar and in the context of Agrigento Italian Capital of Culture 2025. The community renewed its devotion to the patron saint of fishermen with a solemn mass in the Madonna del Carmine church and the procession of the statue through the town streets.
The heart of the festival was once again the varchiata a mari, the sea procession of the statue accompanied by decorated boats, amidst ship sirens and torches. There was no shortage of traditional sea games, with the antenna a mari, and the Sagra della Padellata with fried fish offered for free to the population, confirming Porto Empedocle's strong bond with its sea.
