Madonna del Carmelo Festival

The 2025 edition of the Madonna del Carmelo Festival in Roccalumera confirmed the strength of a tradition deeply felt along the Ionian coast of Messina. The celebrations opened on July 16 in the Botteghelle district, with religious services and the procession of the statue through the parish streets.

The climax was reached on Sunday, July 27, 2025, with the sea procession: the statue of the Madonna, carried aboard a fishing boat, crossed the coastline accompanied by dozens of vessels and hundreds of faithful who arrived from neighboring towns as well. The marine pageant departed from the waters in front of the church, reached Nizza di Sicilia, and returned to the Pagliara stream, on the border with the municipality of Furci Siculo, in an atmosphere of intense devotion and popular celebration.
