Sailing under the stars on Lake Garda
The Macc Race is one of the most spectacular regattas in the calendar of the Fraglia Vela Desenzano (province of Brescia): a competition held at night, using the light of the full moon to navigate the waters of Lake Garda after sunset.
The route and the classes
The classic course takes the boats from Desenzano del Garda northwards, towards Riva del Garda, and then back to the starting point. The ORC classes, one-design boats, and the amateur category participate in the regatta, in a challenge that tests the crews' experience in night navigation, between light breezes and wind shifts typical of the lake.
A sailing tradition of Garda
Founded in 1958, Fraglia Vela Desenzano is one of the historic clubs on the lake and organizes a busy calendar of regattas throughout the year. The Macc Race, with its nighttime format, is one of the most beloved events for sailing enthusiasts and offers a fascinating spectacle even to those watching from Desenzano's lakefront promenade.
Macc Race — edition 2026
In 2026, the Macc Race returns on July 11th and 12th, confirming its nighttime format. Boats from the ORC, one-design, and amateur classes will compete along the route from Desenzano del Garda towards Riva del Garda and back, sailing in the light of the full moon. The regatta is organized by Fraglia Vela Desenzano in the Desenzano gulf.
