Edition 2025 — U Catalettu

The 2025 edition of the Luciese Historical Carnival confirmed the success of the local tradition. The Lapi i Cannaluvari parades ignited the historic center of Santa Lucia del Mela on the Sundays of February 23 and March 2, and on Shrove Tuesday, March 4, while on Saturday, March 1, Piazza Milite Ignoto turned into an open-air disco with nationally renowned DJs. The festival concluded with the «U Catalettu» ritual and the symbolic death of Cannaluvari.

The 2025 Luciese Carnival combined historical tradition with strong participation from the Santa Lucia del Mela community. The Lapi i Cannaluvari, the Ape vehicles decorated as allegorical floats, paraded through the streets of the historic center, showcasing the creativity of the participating groups, while Piazza Milite Ignoto hosted musical evenings with DJ sets. The highlight was the re-enactment of «U Catalettu», organized by the Piccolo Teatro association: Cannaluvari, having died of gluttony after eating too many ricotta fraviole, was placed on the catalettu inside the Church of Santa Maria dell'Arco, where visitors attended the wake accompanied by the prefiche and the funeral band, before the final burning of the effigy.
