The medieval village revives the Nativity with ancient crafts and over a hundred participants
The Living Nativity of Morrovalle is one of the most beloved Christmas re-enactments in the Macerata hinterland. On the days between Christmas and New Year's, the historic center of the Municipality of Morrovalle, in the province of Macerata (Marche), dresses up and transforms into a wonderful village of yesteryear, where sounds, lights, and colors accompany the visitor on a journey into the past.
The heart of the event are the over a hundred participants who bring the network of squares and alleys of the city's main living room to life. The village streets are populated by artisans at work: blacksmiths, carpenters, shoemakers, merchants advertising their products, shepherds with their flocks, bagpipers, and women in period costume. It's like a large open-air theater, where every corner tells the habits and crafts of a bygone era.
The route, lasting about an hour, winds through the entire historic center, from Piazza Vittorio Emanuele to the Nativity scene, set up near Porta delle Fonti and animated by traditional characters and animals. Along the way, there are refreshment points where you can taste bruschetta and mulled wine to warm up in the heart of winter.
On the occasion of the event, the International Nativity Scene Museum "Don Eugenio De Angelis", in vicolo Boarelli, is also open. It houses about 800 nativity scenes from all over the world, spread across six rooms. A unique heritage that makes Morrovalle a small capital of nativity scenes in the Marche region.
The event is organized by the Pro Loco Morrovalle with the patronage of the Municipality. Hundreds of people, including the organizing staff and participants, contribute each year to the success of the nativity scene, which attracts thousands of visitors. Admission is free and the event is particularly suitable for families.
The 26th edition of the Living Nativity of Morrovalle was held on two days: Friday, December 26, 2025, and Monday, January 1, 2026, both from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
