Levante International A Cappella Festival

A festival dedicated to the voice

The Levante International A Cappella Festival is an event entirely devoted to a cappella music, where the human voice serves as the sole instrument. The festival is conceived and organized by the Mezzotono Cultural Association under the artistic direction of Fabio Lepore—a renowned singer, educator, and producer, and a long-standing member of the Mezzotono vocal quintet. Active since 2003, the group is considered one of Italy's foremost musical ambassadors, having performed in over seventy countries.

The project for a Roman edition

While historically rooted in Puglia, where it celebrated its seventh edition in 2026, the festival has also set its sights on Rome. The Mezzotono Cultural Association submitted a proposal to the Rome Capital municipality as part of the "Roma Tutto l'Anno" public call. The project aims to host a Roman edition of the Levante International A Cappella Festival between autumn 2025 and spring 2026 within Municipio VII, specifically in the Tuscolano and Cinecittà areas. This edition would represent the expansion of a festival born and raised in Southern Italy into the nation's capital.

What is a cappella music?

A cappella music relies exclusively on the voice to reproduce melodies, harmonies, and rhythms, transforming singers into a collective instrument. The festival offers a journey through various styles and languages:

• polyphony and vocal arrangements of pop and jazz hits;
• choral traditions and gospel;
• international vocal groups and vocal beatboxing;
• encounters between contemporary sound research and traditional folk singing.

Italian and international groups

Throughout its editions, the Levante International A Cappella Festival has hosted numerous prominent vocal ensembles, including Mezzotono, Sei Ottavi, Faraualla, the international collective Rock4 from the Netherlands, gospel choirs, and various emerging groups, alternating between theater performances, open-air concerts, and morning "street concerts" designed for a wide audience.

A bridge between the South and the Capital

By proposing an edition in Rome's Municipio VII, the festival aims to build a cultural bridge between Puglia and Lazio, introducing the Roman public to a refined and increasingly popular musical genre that masterfully blends technical virtuosity, entertainment, and education.
