Valdostan traditional craftsmanship on display in the car-free village of Chamois
At over 1,800 metres above sea level, in the heart of the Chamois basin (Province of Aosta), L'Atelier degli Artigiani returns every summer, the exhibition that brings traditional Valdostan craftsmanship to the village. The uniqueness of this event is also due to its location: Chamois is indeed the only municipality in the Aosta Valley that cannot be reached by car, but only by the cable car that departs from Buisson, a hamlet of Antey-Saint-André. This detail makes the event's atmosphere even more intimate and authentic.
For one day, the village square comes alive with stalls and stands: a dozen Valdostan artisans exhibit their creations and show the public the stages of their work. Among the items that can be admired and purchased:
The added value is the live demonstration: the artisans do not just sell; they show how each object is made, from the raw piece to the finished product. It is a way to get in direct contact with the artisan trades that have made the history of the Aosta Valley, from the Fiera di Sant'Orso in Aosta to the small mountain villages.
L'Atelier degli Artigiani is organised by the Municipality of Chamois with the support of the Autonomous Region of the Aosta Valley. Now in its numerous editions, it is part of the town's rich summer calendar, which includes concerts, shows, and outdoor events. For those who come all the way up here, it is also an opportunity to discover an unspoiled territory, far from traffic, where the mountain still dictates the rhythms of life.
For summer 2026, Chamois returns to celebrate local craftsmanship with the twelfth edition of L'Atelier degli Artigiani, scheduled for Sunday, July 12, 2026. The exhibition brings together Valdostan exhibitors who present their work and demonstrate live the production processes, from turned wood to wooden flowers to small sculptures. The event takes place in the centre of the village, in the heart of the Chamois basin, in a mountain setting free from traffic.
The detailed timetable for the 2026 edition will be published on the official Chamois website (lovechamois.it) closer to the event.
