L'Aperossa: Ten days of participatory culture in Garbatella
L'Aperossa is one of the most iconic events of the summer cultural season in Rome, Lazio. Promoted by the AAMOD Foundation (Audiovisual Archive of the Workers' and Democratic Movement), it transforms the Garbatella neighborhood and the Ostiense district into a vibrant laboratory for participation, dialogue, and local discovery. The heart of the festival is La Villetta Social Lab, a hub for community and popular culture, complemented by the AAMOD Foundation headquarters on Via Ostiense and the Centrale Montemartini Museum.
A multidisciplinary program: Cinema, memory, and rights
The festival weaves together diverse languages into a multidisciplinary experience: Italian and international film screenings, author talks, book launches, live podcasts, workshops for young people, urban walks, and guided tours. The evening ApeTalk sessions tackle major contemporary issues: labor struggles, migration, human rights, international conflicts, and 20th-century historical memory.

The Explore - Ostiense to listen to project, created with the Marmorata 169 association, guides the public on a journey through history, cinema, literature, and memory via podcasts and QR codes scattered along urban routes. These walks reveal a territory in transformation, blending industrial archaeology, social housing, and community life, restoring the value of collective memory to the citizens.
A tradition of the Estate Romana
Founded in the mid-2010s, L'Aperossa has become a staple of the Estate Romana, supported by the Rome Capital Department of Culture. The festival is a prime example of grassroots culture: free, accessible, and deeply rooted in the social fabric of Garbatella, one of the capital's most beloved and characteristic neighborhoods, famous for its garden-village architecture and strong popular identity. L'Aperossa 2026 - 12th Edition
The twelfth edition of L'Aperossa takes place in Rome in two sessions, from July 13-17 and July 20-24, 2026, between La Villetta Social Lab in Garbatella, the AAMOD Foundation headquarters on Via Ostiense, and the Centrale Montemartini Museum. The central theme is participatory culture, expressed through memory, rights, cinema, and local exploration.
The program alternates film screenings, evening ApeTalk sessions with authors and guests, live podcasts, workshops for children, and urban audio tours. All events are free, subject to availability.

- ApeTalk (every evening): Meetings, debates, and book presentations on topics such as the Spanish Civil War, labor struggles, migration, human rights, and Italy-Cuba relations.
- Film Screenings: Titles include Una vita all'assalto, Spanish Earth, Il figlio più bello, and Diaz by Daniele Vicari, the latter introduced by a debate on the 25th anniversary of the Genoa G8.
- Live Podcasts: The C'è Figa podcast and the Crush live show with Gioia Salvatori and Carolina Di Domenico, plus readings from Fabbrica by Ascanio Celestini.
- CineLab Kids: Cinema workshops for children aged 8 to 12 at AAMOD (Via Ostiense 106), led by Simona Debernardis.
- A Day at the Museum: Guided tours of the Centrale Montemartini Museum in collaboration with the Vita Romana Association.
- Explore - Ostiense to listen to: Urban walks and a ten-episode podcast with QR codes, in collaboration with the Marmorata 169 association.

How to get there
La Villetta Social Lab is located at Via degli Armatori 3, in Garbatella (Rome). The neighborhood is served by Metro Line B (Garbatella and Piramide stations) and numerous bus lines in the Ostiense area. If arriving by car, we recommend using park-and-ride facilities due to limited parking in the area.
Tickets and hours
All events are free of charge, subject to availability. For CineLab Kids workshops and guided tours, booking is recommended by emailing [email protected]. Walks for the Explore project must be booked through the Marmorata 169 association.
Tips
Screenings are held outdoors in the evening: we recommend comfortable clothing and, for families, checking the schedule for children's workshops in advance.
