L'Ancuntru — Easter in Pietraperzia

Easter 2025 in Pietraperzia, in the province of Enna, renewed the tradition of L'Ancuntru on Sunday, April 20. At noon, in the heart of Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, the encounter between the statues of the Risen Christ and the Madonna took place: at the agreed signal, the Virgin, in her black mourning cloak, made her three advances and retreats toward Jesus, until the liberating recognition.

As per tradition, during the act of L'Ancuntru, white doves were released into the sky, and the firecrackers and bells of Santa Maria di Gesù rang out. In the evening, at 19:00, a solemn Mass was celebrated at the Mother Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, followed by a procession through the main streets of the town. The festival is part of the rich Holy Week in Pietraperzia, which had already seen the famous procession of the Signore delle Fasce on Good Friday.
