Two days to discover beauty through music, museums, and the underground city in Ancona
The Itinerari Festival is an event conceived and promoted by Cantieri Musicali Ancona ETS with the patronage of the Municipality of Ancona. As the name suggests, it is not just a simple concert series, but a series of journeys designed to let the public discover different forms of beauty: that of music, offered in different genres, places, and times, and that of the city of Ancona, told through its museums and hidden spaces.
The heart of the festival lies in the forty-minute concerts, spread over two days in three different time slots: morning, afternoon, and evening. It's an agile formula, designed for those who want to approach classical music without the commitment of an entire evening, moving from one venue to another as if on a real itinerary. You can move from classical guitar to a violin and piano duo, from a piano recital to opera, and to choral reviews that bring together several local ensembles.
Alongside the concerts, Itinerari offers drum circle and handpan workshops open to everyone, regardless of age or musical skill: an invitation to make music together, not just to listen to it. The heritage dimension is equally central, with guided tours of the Open Deposits of the National Archaeological Museum of the Marche and the routes of the Ancona Sotterranea association, which lead visitors beneath the city's surface, through tunnels and spaces usually inaccessible.
The editions take place in some of the capital's most representative locations: the Mole Vanvitelliana, the imposing pentagonal lazaretto overlooking the port, and the National Archaeological Museum of the Marche, with its Hall of Festivals. The festival thus fits into a broader project of cultural enhancement of Ancona and the Province of Ancona, in the Marche region, accompanying the city on its path towards recognition of its artistic heritage.
One of Itinerari's distinctive features is its free admission: all activities, from concerts to workshops, from guided tours to choral reviews, are free and open to the public, with booking recommended for some events. A concrete way to make culture accessible and to let citizens and visitors experience the beauty of Ancona in all its forms.
The VIII edition of the Itinerari Festival, promoted by Cantieri Musicali Ancona ETS with the patronage of the Municipality of Ancona, was held on May 23 and 24, 2026. The theme, true to the event's philosophy, was the discovery of beauty through music and the city's heritage. The concerts, each lasting forty minutes, were held in three time slots between the National Archaeological Museum of the Marche and the Mole Vanvitelliana, alongside drum circle and handpan workshops open to all, and guided tours of the museum's Open Deposits and underground Ancona. All activities were free.
Activities take place in Ancona between the Mole Vanvitelliana (Banchina Giovanni da Chio) and the National Archaeological Museum of the Marche (Via Ferretti 6), with guided tours also starting from Piazza Roma.
Ancona is well connected by train (Ancona Centrale station) and by car via the A14 motorway, exit Ancona Nord or Ancona Sud. The festival venues are located in the historic center, reachable on foot or by public transport from the center.
All activities are free to enter. For some tours and concerts, booking is recommended at 071 202007 and 334 3467166.
