About Polyphonic Meeting Fano

The International Polyphonic Meeting City of Fano is one of the most prestigious choral reviews in Europe. Since 1974, the Coro Polifonico Malatestiano has brought choirs and vocal groups from all over the world to Fano, in the Marche region. Every late summer, basilicas, churches, and historic sites in the city are transformed into stages for concerts of sacred music, Renaissance polyphony, and contemporary repertoire. Free admission to all events.

An international event with great polyphony

The International Polyphonic Meeting City of Fano is a choral festival of international importance that takes place annually between the end of August and the first days of September in the Municipality of Fano, in the province of Pesaro and Urbino, in the Marche region. Founded in 1974 on the initiative of the Coro Polifonico Malatestiano, the Meeting has made Fano and the entire region one of the most qualified showcases for polyphonic music, welcoming vocal ensembles and conductors from all over the world over time.

Choirs from around the world in Fano's churches

The festival brings together some of the best Italian and foreign choral groups, who perform in the most evocative locations in Fano's historic center: the Basilica of San Paterniano, the San Domenico Art Gallery, and the city's churches and squares. The program ranges from Renaissance polyphony to sacred music, from classical repertoire to contemporary proposals, with major symphonic-choral events, first performances, and collaborations with orchestras.

Training and high specialization

Alongside the concerts, the Meeting hosts two important training projects: the European Academy for Choir Conductors and the UT Choral Academy, which each year attract young conductors and singers from various countries to Fano for masterclasses, rehearsals, and final concerts. The artistic direction is entrusted to the composer and conductor Lorenzo Donati.

A celebration for the city

In addition to the evening concerts, the event offers widespread moments such as the choral marathon and vocal encounters in the historic center, which liven up Fano with flash mobs, moving choirs, and public events. All events have free admission, confirming a commitment to openness and accessibility that has made the Meeting a benchmark for enthusiasts, tourists, and citizens of the Marche.

Polyphonic Meeting Fano — edition 2026

Once again this year, the Coro Polifonico Malatestiano, under the artistic direction of Lorenzo Donati, will bring international choirs and vocal groups to Fano for about ten days of choral and polyphonic music in the city's churches and historic sites. The full concert schedule is being finalized.

The 53rd edition of the International Polyphonic Meeting City of Fano will be held from August 28 to September 6, 2026, confirming the late summer event that has enlivened Fano's historic center with great choral music for over fifty years.
