The saint's life told through the works of Oliviero Filippini and young artists
The iconographic exhibition on Saint Louis Gonzaga is one of the cultural events of the Aloisian Year 2026, the jubilee year with which Castiglione delle Stiviere (MN) celebrates the third centenary of the canonization of its patron saint. The exhibition, set up in the Sala don Rinaldo Dalboni adjacent to the basilica, tells the episodes of Saint Louis's life through images, from his birth in the Mantuan city to his death in Rome while assisting plague victims.
On display are the works of artist Oliviero Filippini, alongside the works by students from the "Alessandro Dal Prato" art high school, also dedicated to the figure and life of the saint. The encounter between Filippini's artistic maturity and the creative freshness of the young students creates an exhibition path that unites different generations in homage to Saint Louis.
The exhibition is promoted by the Numismatic and Philatelic Circle of the Morenic capital, in collaboration with the Aloisian Fideicommissum Foundation, on the occasion of the three hundredth anniversary of the canonization. It is thus part of the rich calendar of initiatives that, throughout 2026, animate Castiglione delle Stiviere around the memory of the saint, with religious celebrations, exhibitions, and pilgrimages.
With free admission, the iconographic exhibition is an opportunity to approach the life of Saint Louis Gonzaga through art, in a symbolic place near the basilica dedicated to him. A choral tribute from the community of Castiglione to its most illustrious saint, protector of youth.
