Iconella Festival (Madonna dell'Iconella)

As every year, on September 8th, 2025, Veglie celebrated the Madonna dell'Iconella on the day of the Nativity of Mary. The festival combined religious moments — with the procession and liturgical celebrations — with the popular country fair, featuring stalls and typical gastronomic products from the Salento region.

The civil program offered games and activities for children, from treasure hunts to rural games like sack races and tug-of-war, concluding with prize-giving ceremonies. Illuminations and musical accompaniment enlivened the town streets, while fireworks marked the end of the festivities, confirming the Iconella as one of the most heartfelt events in the Veglie calendar for early September.

The day of September 8th, 2025, alternated religious rites in honor of the Madonna dell'Iconella with the traditional fair selling typical products. On the civil side, games and activities for children took place — treasure hunts, rural games, sack races, and tug-of-war — along with prize ceremonies, musical accompaniment, and, in closing, a fireworks display.
