Edition 2025 — I Pignatuna

The 2025 edition of I Pignatuna took place on Sunday, March 2, starting at 4:30 PM from Piazza Fratelli Messina. The equestrian procession, organized by the "Tutti in Sella" Association with the patronage of the Municipality of Barrafranca, revived the ancient recitation of the twelve months of the year: twelve knights, preceded by the King and Queen, paraded through the town streets in search of the pignatuna hung between balconies, striking them with sticks to drop their contents among the festive crowd.

The 2025 edition of I Pignatuna was held on Sunday, March 2, 2025, starting at 4:30 PM from Piazza Fratelli Messina, in the historic center of Barrafranca.

The event was organized by the "Tutti in Sella" Association with municipal patronage. Among the fourteen participants in the procession, Queen Cristina Speziale and King Samuele Speziale led the twelve knights who portrayed the months of the year, from Alessandro Aiello to Lorenzo Bonincontro.

The knights paraded through the town streets reciting verses in the local dialect and breaking terracotta pots filled with confetti and candies. The safety of the event was ensured by the State Police, Carabinieri, and Municipal Police.
