Edition 2025 — I Mazzaroni

In 2025, the historical Mazzaroni Carnival of Schiavi di Abruzzo was held on Saturday, March 1, and Tuesday, March 4. As is tradition, the village youths with the flower-covered Cimiero, led by the Pulcinella, traveled through the village and the hamlets of the Alto Vastese in a ritual quest animated by songs, dances, and the spallata dance.

The 2025 edition

The 2025 Mazzaroni Carnival took place over two days. Saturday, March 1, the procession departed at 9:00 AM from Piazza Purgatorio, visiting the hamlets of Valli, Casali, Salce, Cannavina, Taverna, Cupello, Badia, and San Martino throughout the day. Tuesday, March 4, after the 11:30 AM gathering in Piazza Purgatorio, the Mazzaroni reached the Valloni hamlet before parading through the village in the afternoon.

In 2025, the festival once again confirmed the vitality of one of the most authentic folk traditions of the Alto Vastese, in the province of Chieti, with the house-to-house quest and the propitiatory spallata dance sealing the festivities.
