Holy Week in Sommatino 2025

In 2025, the community of Sommatino, in the province of Caltanissetta, celebrated the rites of Holy Week with the traditional Scinnenza, organized by the Associazione Insieme per un Sogno and the Gruppo Scinnenza. Good Friday represented the central moment: the procession of the actors, the representation of the condemnation and scourging of Christ, and finally the centuries-old deposition from the Cross at Calvary.

As every year, the Urn of the dead Christ was carried by former miners in their work clothes, while the two processions from the Mother Church and the Church of Santa Maria Addolorata accompanied the Urn and the Addolorata, keeping alive one of the most deeply felt religious traditions of the Caltanissetta region.
