Holy Week in Salemi

Holy Week 2025 in Salemi, in the province of Trapani, followed the traditional path of rites that involves the village community every year. Palm Sunday (April 13) opened with the blessing of the palms in Piazza Libertà and the re-enactment of the entry into Jerusalem.

Holy Thursday featured the Chrism Mass in the Cathedral and, in the evening, the Mass of the Lord's Supper with the Washing of the Feet and nocturnal adoration at the altars of repose. Good Friday represented the heart of the celebrations: after the Liturgy of the Cross, the procession of the Dead Christ and Our Lady of Sorrows wound through the alleys of the historic center, carried on the shoulders of confraternities in traditional attire, concluding at the Mother Church. Holy Saturday culminated in the solemn Easter Vigil. A week that confirmed the strength of Salemi's popular piety in the Belice Valley.
