Edition 2025 — Holy Saturday Procession

The 2025 edition of the Holy Saturday Procession took place in Botrugno on Saturday, April 19th. At dawn, from the Chapel of the Assumption, the procession with the statues of the Dead Christ and Our Lady of Sorrows crossed the historic center in the evocative women-led procession that characterizes the Salento rite.

In 2025, the Holy Saturday Procession of Botrugno (Province of Lecce, Puglia) was held on Saturday, April 19th. Faithful to tradition, the procession departed at the first light of day from the Chapel of the Assumption, with the statues of the Dead Christ and Our Lady of Sorrows carried on the shoulders of young local women in black dresses.

The women-led procession, accompanied by funeral marches, renewed one of the most intense and attended rites of Holy Week in lower Salento, confirming Botrugno as a singular stop on the Apulian Easter itinerary.
