The 2025 Palio: three days and a discussion on sources

The Historical Palio of the City of Angri took place from Friday, September 26 to Sunday, September 28, 2025, taking the Agro nocerino-sarnese city back in time, among ancient districts, hamlets, coats of arms, and the symbolic dates of its feudal history.

As per tradition, the first few days were dedicated to side events - conferences, guided tours, and historical theater performances, from the Archery Tournament to the Assaults on the Castle linked to the siege of September 24, 1421, and the Day of Redemption of June 26, 1428 - while Sunday saw the historical pageant travel through the main streets of the historic center to Piazza Doria. In the afternoon, at the Pasquale Novi Municipal Stadium, the Knights' Joust pitted the six districts and hamlets against each other in the ring test and the Saracen test, with the evening presentation of the "Spada di Zurlo" palio to the winning district.

The edition was accompanied by a historiographical controversy: according to some scholars in the Angri community, the past brought to the stage was partly romanticized, and the discussion found space in the local press. A sign, however, of how deeply the re-enactment is felt by the city.
