Edition 2025 — Carnival of the Coumba Freida in Gignod
In 2025, the Historical Carnival of the Coumba Freida once again confirmed its strong identity in Gignod. The landzette, with their vibrant red costumes, mirrors, and mule tails, travelled through the hamlets of the municipality — from Excenex to Variney, from Seyssinod to Meylan — entering homes, dancing, and bringing good luck. It is a rite rooted in the legend of Napoleon's passage through the Great St Bernard, culminating, as tradition dictates, in an evening of dancing and the burning of the carnival at midnight on Shrove Tuesday. For the 2025 edition too, the participation of the Gignod community was warm, testifying to how much this mask is a living part of the identity of the Great St Bernard Valley.
