The cycling granfondo that kicks off the PedaLatium circuit through the hills of Sabina
The Gran Fondo Internazionale Città di Fara in Sabina is one of the most well-established cycling events in the province of Rieti and the entire Lazio region. Every year, at the end of March, the village of Passo Corese — a district of the municipality of Fara in Sabina — becomes the meeting point for hundreds of cycling enthusiasts ready to kick off the road granfondo season.
Reaching its twentieth edition in 2026, the race is now a fixed appointment in the amateur calendar of Central Italy and officially opens the PedaLatium circuit, the championship that brings together the main granfondo races in Lazio.
The event offers various distances to satisfy all levels, from the most experienced competitors to cycle-tourists who ride for the pleasure of the landscape:
The tracks wind through the rolling hills of the Rieti Sabina, amidst olive groves, small villages, and scenic roads that offer glimpses of the Tiber Valley and the Apennine peaks.
Much more than just a race, the Gran Fondo of Fara in Sabina is a celebration of outdoor sports. The village set up in Via dei Bretoni, in Passo Corese, is the beating heart of the event: this is where race packs are collected, awards ceremonies take place, and participants gather after the finish for final refreshments. Road closures and support services ensure safety along the entire route.
Being held in late March makes this granfondo one of the first great opportunities to test early-season form, in a setting that combines competition with the promotion of the Sabina territory, a land famous for its extra virgin olive oil and a historical heritage rooted in antiquity.
Included in the PedaLatium circuit and, in some editions, the Volchem circuit, the race attracts cycling clubs from all over Lazio and neighboring regions. With hundreds of participants in each edition, the Gran Fondo Internazionale Città di Fara in Sabina represents an important driver for tourism promotion for the municipality of Fara in Sabina and the entire province of Rieti.
In 2026, the Gran Fondo Internazionale Città di Fara in Sabina celebrated its twentieth edition, confirming itself as one of the most anticipated opening events of the Lazio cycling calendar. The meeting point, as per tradition, was set up in Passo Corese, on Via dei Bretoni, the logistical heart of the event in the municipality of Fara in Sabina.
Over 600 cyclists took to the roads of the Rieti Sabina, putting on a show along the rolling hills that characterize the tracks. The race officially opened the 2026 PedaLatium circuit, offering a challenging test for amateurs and cycle-tourists from all over Central Italy.
The twentieth edition took place on Sunday, March 29, 2026, with start and finish in Passo Corese, on Via dei Bretoni. On Saturday, March 28, the village was open from 3:30 PM to 7:30 PM for the collection of race packs and materials.
The edition recorded over 600 participants. On the long course, Giovanni Loiscio (Team Eracle) and Loretta Giudici (Bike House) won; on the medio fondo, Ciro Greco (Ciclisport 2000) and Daniela Cecchetti (Anagni Ciclismo) took the victory.
The meeting point is in Passo Corese, a district of Fara in Sabina (RI), on Via dei Bretoni. By car, it is easily reached from the A1 motorway (Fiano Romano exit) or the Via Salaria (SS4). The Passo Corese train station, on the Rome-Orte line, is located just a few minutes from the town center.
Registration is done online via the Kronoservice platform or on-site, on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, at the race village. Fees vary based on the chosen distance and the registration period.
We recommend arriving early to collect your race pack and enter the starting grid. For cycle-tourists, shorter routes are available, also suitable for those tackling the event in a non-competitive way.
