GLOCAL stops in Artena

GLOCAL - Arts and Entertainment through Alleys and Squares is the touring festival conceived and promoted by ATCL - Multidisciplinary Circuit of the Lazio Region, a project that travels through various towns in Lazio during the summer of 2026 to bring culture, entertainment, and participation to the squares and alleys of the villages. After stops in Colonna and Nettuno, the festival arrives in Artena, in the province of Rome, where on August 29 and 30, 2026, it enlivens the Villa Borghese Gardens with two days of free events.

A widespread festival in the heart of Lazio

The GLOCAL concept combines the global dimension of performing arts with the local character of the territories: auteur theater, great live music, street performances, and activities for families move out of theaters to inhabit public spaces. In Artena, a village with a characteristic medieval layout perched on the Lepini Mountains, the green setting of the Villa Borghese Gardens hosts a program designed for all ages, with a special focus on urban regeneration and cultural accessibility.

The program for the Artena stop

The two days alternate afternoon workshops for children with high-profile evening shows:

  • Saturday, August 29, afternoon - sensory workshop Budding Little Herbalists, an educational activity dedicated to discovering herbs and vegetables with the creation of natural cosmetics;
  • Saturday, August 29, evening - concert by the Solisti degli Acquaragia Drom, featuring Nando Citarella, Elia Cirillo, Paolo Rocca, and Rita Tumminia, for an overwhelming journey through the rhythms of Rom music from various Italian provinces;
  • Sunday, August 30, afternoon - creative recycling workshop, confirming the event's focus on environmental issues;
  • Sunday, August 30, 9:00 PM - final show by No Funny Stuff, an extravagant international jug band that amazes the audience with musical instruments built entirely from recycled everyday objects.

Folk music and sustainability

The Artena stop brings into dialogue traditional folk music, represented by the Rom repertoire of the Acquaragia Drom, and the sustainable creativity of No Funny Stuff, which transforms recycling into art. The common thread is the meeting of cultures and generations, with workshops that actively involve children and families, bringing them closer to themes of nature and environmental respect.

In Artena, in the province of Rome

Located in the heart of Lazio, at the foot of the Lepini Mountains, Artena is famous for its pedestrian-only historic center and the timeless atmosphere of its alleys. Hosting GLOCAL in the Villa Borghese Gardens means returning a space for sharing and celebration to the community, in line with the festival's vocation to enhance the places and villages of the Lazio Region. The organization is handled by ATCL, with the patronage of the Ministry of Culture, the Lazio Region, and the Municipality of Artena.
