Frumentu — Ancient Grains Festival

Frumentu 2025 in Militello Rosmarino

The 2025 edition of Frumentu — Ancient Grains Festival was held in Militello Rosmarino, in the Province of Messina, from September 19 to 21, 2025. To allow the event to take place, a temporary closure of a section of the SP 161 dell'Alcara provincial road was ordered, with a detour via the SP 161 Bis.

The event celebrated the ancient Sicilian grains that made Sicily the "granary of the Mediterranean," with a rich calendar of guided tastings, presentations of traditional dishes, artistic and cultural performances, and meetings with operators and experts in the agri-food sector. Ample space was dedicated to traditional cultivation and processing techniques and to the themes of health and food sustainability, with particular attention to varieties such as einkorn. The event was organized by the Municipality of Militello Rosmarino with the support of the Metropolitan City of Messina.
